General Information
Data Ownership and Data Protection Law Due to the complexity of this area of law and regulation, we suggest charities look at the guidance already provided by the Information Commissioner's Office. (ICO) The ICO is the UK's independent authority set up to uphold information rights in the public interest, promoting openness by public bodies and data privacy for individuals. The link to the basic ICO guidance section is :- http://www.ico.gov.uk/for_organisations/data_protection_guide.aspx but specific guidance for charities in respect of marketing activities is also available from: ICO link 2 and ICO link 3 The ICO guidance is usually straight forward and easy to follow - and they are the regulator for these laws and regulations, so following their guidance would enable any organisation to remain compliant.
